Q Cinema Celebrates 10th Annual Festival with Films, Parties and Events

Q Cinema, Fort Worth's Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival celebrates a decade of bringing the best in gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender films to North Texas with 10 days of movies, music, theater, comedy, drag, opera, parties and more.  This year’s festival opens May 29th and runs through June 7th at the historic Rose Marine Theater and various venues throughout the city.

Organizers say they have programmed the most ambitious festival to date, with 30 films from multiple countries - many of which will see their Southwest or Texas premieres. In addition, more filmmakers and stars will be attendance this year, including offering an evening honoring Fort Worth favorite Leslie Jordan, who will present part of his new one-man show while special guests Del Shores and Jason Dottley share a special sneak peek at the Logo's upcoming Sordid Lives: The Series.
“It’s an extravaganza 10 years in the making, and it feels like I’ve aged 20 years in the process,” jokes Artistic Director Todd Camp. “But we’ve never been more excited about a festival. We’re showcasing what we feel are some of the best films in our decade-long history, and we couldn’t be more delighted to be bringing in so many of the wonderful talents who helped create them.”

Opening night on Thursday, May 29th, will feature the Southwest premiere of the film Were the World Mine.  A coming of age story centering around a high school production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummers’ Night Dream, the screening will also include director Thomas Gustafson and stars Tanner Cohen and Nathaniel David Becker in attendance.

Following the screening, the opening night’s “A Presummer Night’s Dream Gala” will be held at Flowers on the Square - located 2110 W. Bank Landing Street - beginning at 9:30 p.m.  Live music, food by Snap Catering, and cocktails along the banks of the Trinity will provide the magic for the evening.

Friday night brings the Texas premiere of the romantic comedy Out at the Wedding, featuring Charlie Schlatter (Parker Lewis Can't Lose), Mike Farrell (M*A*S*H) and Mink Stole of John Waters film fame.  An old-fashioned wedding reception at Esoterica Lounge follows the screening, complete with powder blue tuxes, bad bridesmaid dresses, 80s-tinged house music and a cash bar.

Other film highlights include the North Texas premiere of documentary Sex Positive, the Texas premiere of the ex-gay movement drama Save Me - starring Chad Allen, Robert Gant, and Judith Light.  On May 31st, Emmy Award winner Leslie Jordan brings his one-man show to the Scott Theatre - along with Sordid Lives director Del Shores - followed by a reception on the theatre veranda.

The festival closes with the Continental U.S. premiere of Mulligans, with director and UNT graduate Chip Hale and writer/star Charlie David in attendance.  Dallas stand-up comic Paul J. Williams will then host “The Q Awards” to hand out the trophies for this year’s film festival winners, followed by the Q Cinema Birthday Party on the Rose Marine plaza
